Two individuals are facing charges after allegedly attempting to use fraudulent checks at a casino in Jefferson County.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old John Smith and 28-year-old Jane Doe, were caught by casino security attempting to cash in phony checks worth thousands of dollars. According to authorities, the checks appeared to be counterfeit and were printed with fake account numbers and signatures.
Smith and Doe were taken into custody by local law enforcement and now face charges of forgery, fraud, and attempting to obtain money under false pretenses. They are currently being held at the Jefferson County jail awaiting trial.
This incident comes as a shocking reminder of the lengths some individuals will go to in order to try and cheat the system. The casino has since tightened security measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
“We take the safety and security of our patrons very seriously, and we will not tolerate any illegal activity on our premises,” said a spokesperson for the casino. “We are grateful to our vigilant security team for catching these suspects before they were able to successfully defraud us.”
The Jefferson County sheriff’s department is urging anyone who may have information about this case or any other suspicious activity to come forward. They are also reminding the public to always be wary of accepting checks from unknown individuals and to verify the authenticity of any financial instruments before cashing them.
As the investigation into this incident continues, the two suspects are expected to appear in court in the coming days. If found guilty, they could face hefty fines and potential jail time for their alleged crimes.
