Authorities in Thailand have made a major bust on a gambling site that was raking in an estimated B700 million a month, leading to the arrest of two sisters who were allegedly running the operation.
The bust, which was carried out by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), took place in Bangkok and uncovered a sophisticated gambling network that was operating online and generating huge profits. The two sisters, who were identified as Nonglak Saengchan and Nonthicha Saengchan, were taken into custody during the raid.
According to DSI chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, the sisters were in charge of the gambling site, which offered a wide range of betting options including sports betting, online casino games, and lottery. Paisit stated that the site was able to attract a large number of customers due to its user-friendly interface and attractive promotions.
Investigators believe that the operation was bringing in as much as B700 million a month in revenue, making it one of the largest illegal gambling sites in the country. The sisters were allegedly using the profits to fund a lavish lifestyle, including luxury cars and expensive properties.
The bust comes as part of a wider crackdown on illegal gambling in Thailand, with authorities ramping up efforts to combat the growing problem. Paisit emphasized that illegal gambling poses a serious threat to society and must be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
The two sisters now face a range of charges, including running an illegal gambling operation and money laundering. They are currently being held in custody as the investigation continues.
The bust has sent shockwaves through the underground gambling world in Thailand, with many operators now fearful of being targeted by authorities. The DSI has vowed to continue its efforts to stamp out illegal gambling and protect the public from the harms associated with it.
