In response to the growing issue of illegal gambling in the state, Colorado has officially launched an awareness campaign aimed at educating residents about the risks and consequences of participating in illicit gaming activities.
The campaign, titled “Know the Law, Bet Responsibly,” is a joint effort between the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Division of Gaming and the Colorado Gaming Association. The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness about the penalties associated with engaging in illegal gambling, such as fines, imprisonment, and the potential loss of property.
According to state officials, illegal gambling has been on the rise in Colorado in recent years, fueled in part by the proliferation of online gambling sites and unregulated sports betting operations. These activities not only pose a threat to public safety and the integrity of the gaming industry, but also deprive the state of much-needed revenue that could be put towards education, infrastructure, and other essential services.
As part of the campaign, the Division of Gaming and the Colorado Gaming Association will be hosting a series of public events and outreach efforts to inform residents about the laws and regulations governing gambling in the state. This includes informational materials distributed at local businesses, community centers, and online platforms, as well as educational workshops and presentations at schools and community events.
In addition, the campaign will highlight the resources available to those struggling with gambling addiction, such as the Colorado Problem Gambling Helpline and the National Council on Problem Gambling. These organizations offer support, counseling, and treatment services to individuals and families affected by gambling-related issues.
“We want to remind Coloradans that gambling should be a fun and enjoyable pastime, but it’s important to do it within the bounds of the law,” said John Hutto, Director of the Division of Gaming. “By raising awareness about the risks of illegal gambling, we hope to protect our residents and preserve the integrity of our state’s legal gaming industry.”
The “Know the Law, Bet Responsibly” campaign is set to run throughout the year, with ongoing efforts to reach out to communities across the state. Residents are encouraged to visit the Division of Gaming’s website for more information on responsible gambling practices and legal gaming options in Colorado.
