The Netherlands Online Gaming Association (NOGA) is calling on Dutch lawmakers to prioritize the protection of online players as they prepare to implement new regulations for the country’s online gambling market.
In a statement released on Thursday, NOGA emphasized the importance of responsible gambling measures to prevent problem gambling and ensure a safe and fair online gaming environment.
“As the online gambling market in the Netherlands continues to grow, it is crucial for lawmakers to prioritize the protection of players,” said Peter-Paul de Goeij, director of NOGA. “We urge policymakers to implement regulations that prioritize player safety, responsible gambling, and fair gaming practices.”
NOGA’s call to action comes as the Dutch government prepares to open up the country’s online gambling market to international operators for the first time. The new regulations, which are set to come into effect in March 2021, will allow licensed operators to offer online casino games and sports betting to Dutch players.
However, NOGA is concerned that without proper safeguards in place, the expansion of the online gambling market could lead to an increase in problem gambling and harm to vulnerable players.
“We urge lawmakers to implement strong measures to protect players, including tools for self-exclusion, responsible gambling limits, and strict age verification checks,” de Goeij added.
NOGA has also called for a ban on aggressive marketing tactics that target vulnerable players and promote excessive gambling behavior. The association is advocating for a regulatory framework that prioritizes player safety and promotes responsible gaming practices.
In addition to player protection measures, NOGA is also calling for strict enforcement of regulations to ensure that licensed operators comply with the law and adhere to high standards of fair gaming and consumer protection.
“We believe that a well-regulated online gambling market can provide a safe and enjoyable gaming experience for Dutch players,” de Goeij said. “By prioritizing player protection and responsible gaming practices, we can create a sustainable and successful online gambling market that benefits both players and operators.”
NOGA’s call to action comes at a critical time as Dutch lawmakers finalize regulations for the country’s online gambling market. With the launch of the new regulatory framework just months away, NOGA is urging policymakers to prioritize player protection and responsible gaming practices to ensure a safe and fair online gaming environment for all Dutch players.
