Two men have been arrested by San Jose police on suspicion of operating an illegal narcotics and gambling establishment in the heart of the city. The arrests come after a months-long investigation by law enforcement officials, who raided the establishment early Saturday morning.
According to police, the establishment, which was located on South First Street, was a hub for illegal drug activity and gambling. The two men arrested, identified as Tony Martinez, 42, and Carlos Rodriguez, 38, are believed to be the masterminds behind the operation.
The raid, which was conducted by a team of officers from the San Jose Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice unit, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana. In addition, officers also confiscated several firearms and a significant amount of cash, which is believed to have been obtained through illegal means.
“This was a significant operation that posed a serious threat to the safety and well-being of the residents of San Jose,” said San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia. “I am proud of the hard work and dedication of our officers, who were able to shut down this operation and take two dangerous criminals off the streets.”
Martinez and Rodriguez are facing a slew of charges, including possession of narcotics for sale, operating an illegal gambling establishment, and conspiracy. Both men are currently being held at the Santa Clara County Jail on bail amounts of $500,000 each.
The raid comes as part of a larger effort by the San Jose Police Department to crack down on illegal drug activity and gambling in the city. Chief Garcia has made it a priority to target criminal enterprises that operate under the guise of legitimate businesses, and this latest bust is a major victory in that ongoing battle.
Residents of San Jose are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to police, and to remain vigilant in their neighborhoods. With the help of community members, law enforcement officials can continue to make strides in keeping the city safe from illegal activities.
