A Bettendorf man has been arrested after authorities discovered he had been using his disabled sibling’s credit card for online gambling, according to WHBF – OurQuadCities.com.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody by Bettendorf police on Monday evening after his disabled sibling reported unauthorized charges on their credit card.
According to authorities, the man had been using his sibling’s credit card to make online gambling deposits totaling thousands of dollars over the course of several months.
The disabled sibling, who relies on the credit card for essential purchases and medical bills, was left in financial distress as a result of the unauthorized charges.
The man now faces charges of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, theft, and identity theft. He is being held at the Scott County Jail pending a court appearance.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding personal information and monitoring financial accounts to prevent unauthorized use.
The Bettendorf Police Department is urging anyone who suspects they may be a victim of financial exploitation to contact local law enforcement immediately. They also encourage individuals to regularly check their credit card statements and report any suspicious activity.
