One person was tragically killed in a car crash in south Everett early this morning, leaving residents of the quiet suburban neighborhood shaken.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 am on Maple Street, just off of Evergreen Way. According to witnesses, a black sedan was seen speeding down the residential street before losing control and crashing into a tree.
Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after the crash, but unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on site. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Local residents were awoken by the sound of the crash and rushed outside to see what had happened. “I heard a loud screeching noise followed by a huge crash. It was terrifying,” said one neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
The accident has left many in the community shocked and saddened. “It’s just heartbreaking to know that someone lost their life so close to home,” said another resident.
The police are currently investigating the cause of the crash, but speed is believed to have been a factor. “We are looking into all possibilities at this time, but initial reports indicate that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed,” said Sergeant Reynolds of the South Everett Police Department.
The road has since been reopened to traffic, but the wreckage of the car serves as a haunting reminder of the tragic events that unfolded earlier this morning.
As the community mourns the loss of one of its own, residents are left grappling with the reality of how fragile life can be. The incident serves as a sobering reminder to always drive safely and responsibly on the roads.
