Police in Huntington are cracking down on illegal gambling machines and underage drinking at a local deli, authorities said.
Huntington Police Chief Amanda Wilson announced on Monday that a raid conducted at a deli on Main Street uncovered multiple illegal gambling machines, as well as evidence of underage patrons consuming alcohol on the premises.
According to Chief Wilson, the deli had been under investigation for several weeks following complaints from concerned citizens about suspicious activity at the establishment. Undercover officers had been monitoring the deli and gathering evidence to support a search warrant.
During the raid, police seized several gambling machines that are prohibited by state law, as well as cash and other evidence related to illegal gambling activities. In addition, several underage individuals were found to be in possession of alcohol and were subsequently cited for underage drinking.
Chief Wilson emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, stating that illegal gambling machines can lead to a variety of criminal activities, including money laundering and organized crime. She also expressed concern about the dangers of underage drinking and the need to protect young individuals from the harmful effects of alcohol.
The deli owner, whose name has not been released, will face charges related to illegal gambling, serving alcohol to minors, and other violations of state and local laws. The deli’s liquor license may also be in jeopardy as a result of the allegations.
The community has reacted with shock and dismay to the news, with many expressing disbelief that such activities could be taking place in their neighborhood. Residents have called for increased vigilance and enforcement of laws to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Chief Wilson thanked the public for their support and encouraged anyone with information about illegal gambling or underage drinking in Huntington to come forward and report it to the police. She reassured residents that law enforcement will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
