Maryland Casino Revenue Up in July, Down Year-on-Year
Maryland’s casinos experienced a boost in revenue during the month of July, with total earnings reaching $153.2 million. While this represents a significant increase compared to the previous month, it is actually a decrease of 2% when compared to the same period last year.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission released the figures, showing that all six of the state’s casinos saw an increase in revenue during July. MGM National Harbor led the way with $64.9 million in earnings, followed by Live! Casino & Hotel with $50.6 million, and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore with $20.9 million.
Despite the overall increase in revenue, the year-on-year comparison paints a different picture. In July 2020, Maryland’s casinos brought in $156.6 million, indicating a decline of $3.4 million this year. This is likely due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in closures and reduced capacity limits at casinos across the state.
Maryland’s casinos have been working hard to recover from the financial losses incurred during the pandemic. Many venues have implemented strict safety measures, such as mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing, to ensure the health and well-being of patrons and employees.
While the July revenue figures show a slight decline compared to last year, casino operators remain hopeful that business will continue to improve in the coming months. With more people getting vaccinated and restrictions easing, there is optimism that the industry will bounce back stronger than ever.
The Maryland casino industry plays a vital role in the state’s economy, providing thousands of jobs and generating millions of dollars in tax revenue. The recent uptick in earnings is a positive sign for the future, indicating that Maryland’s casinos are on the road to recovery.
As the state continues to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic, casino operators are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable gaming experience for patrons. With increased revenue in July, Maryland’s casinos are well-positioned to thrive in the months ahead and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
