On Saturday night, a man was arrested at Encore Boston Harbor casino after allegedly stealing $13,000 worth of casino chips from a table. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at one of the high-stakes tables in the casino’s exclusive VIP area.
According to witnesses, the man, identified as 32-year-old Jason Martinez, was seen acting suspiciously near the table before swiftly grabbing a stack of high-value chips and attempting to make a run for it. Security guards quickly intervened and apprehended Martinez before he could flee the casino.
Authorities were called to the scene and Martinez was taken into custody. He now faces charges of larceny over $1,200.
The incident has left casino staff and patrons shocked and concerned about the security measures in place at the upscale establishment.
“We pride ourselves on providing a safe and secure environment for our guests, and incidents like this are taken very seriously,” said casino spokesperson Mary Johnson. “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure that justice is served.”
Martinez is currently being held on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court next week. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
The theft comes as a blow to Encore Boston Harbor, which has been working hard to establish itself as a premier destination for high-rollers and gaming enthusiasts. The casino opened its doors just two years ago and has quickly gained a reputation for its luxurious amenities, top-notch dining options, and world-class gaming experience.
Despite this setback, casino management remains confident in their ability to provide a safe and secure environment for all guests.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of theft or misconduct on our premises,” said Johnson. “We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and take all necessary steps to prevent incidents like this from happening in the future.”
As the investigation into the theft continues, patrons are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to casino security immediately.
