Renowned rapper Nelly found himself in hot water recently when he was arrested at a Las Vegas casino for alleged drug possession. The Grammy award-winning artist, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was taken into custody on Saturday night after security guards at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino reportedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, and handguns in his possession.
Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, has since come forward to defend his client, claiming that the singer was unfairly targeted by the authorities. In a statement released to the media, Rosenblum asserted that Nelly was “the victim of a completely fabricated and vindictive process that was initiated by someone who is also a government employee.”
The attorney went on to explain that Nelly had been invited to the casino by a group of friends and had no knowledge that any illegal substances were present. According to Rosenblum, security guards at the casino were tipped off about Nelly’s arrival and deliberately searched his entourage in an attempt to incriminate him.
Rosenblum also took issue with the fact that Nelly was detained for nearly seven hours before being charged with a crime, calling the delay “unjust and unreasonable.” He went on to suggest that the arrest was part of a larger effort to tarnish Nelly’s reputation and sabotage his career.
Despite the allegations made by Nelly’s attorney, the police maintain that their actions were justified and that the singer was in possession of illegal substances. Nelly has since been released on bail and is due to appear in court in the coming weeks to face charges of drug possession and illegal gun possession.
Fans of Nelly have taken to social media to show their support for the rapper, with many echoing Rosenblum’s claims that Nelly was unfairly targeted by the authorities. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will impact Nelly’s career and whether he will be able to clear his name of the charges against him.
