The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has made a major move in the fight against online gambling by blocking access to nearly 3 million websites and online platforms that promote or facilitate illegal gambling activities.
In a recent press conference, MICT Minister, Dr. Sarawut Wijarn, announced that the ministry has been actively monitoring online gambling content for the past several months and has identified a staggering number of websites that are in violation of Thailand’s strict gambling laws.
“These websites not only promote illegal gambling activities but also pose a significant threat to the public and national security,” Dr. Sarawut stated. “We have a responsibility to protect our citizens from online gambling addiction and prevent the influx of illicit funds into the country.”
The blocked websites include online casinos, sports betting platforms, and other gambling-related websites that target Thai citizens. The MICT has also worked closely with internet service providers to ensure that these websites are inaccessible to users in Thailand.
The move to block almost 3 million online gambling content is part of the government’s broader efforts to crack down on illegal gambling activities in the country. In recent years, Thailand has seen a surge in online gambling operations, with many operators targeting Thai citizens through social media and other online platforms.
The MICT has also urged the public to report any gambling-related content they come across online to help with their efforts to stamp out illegal gambling activities in the country. Dr. Sarawut emphasized that the ministry is committed to working with law enforcement agencies to effectively enforce Thailand’s gambling laws and protect the country’s citizens from the harmful effects of online gambling.
In closing, Dr. Sarawut reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to creating a safe and secure online environment for all Thai citizens. He expressed his hope that the blocking of nearly 3 million online gambling content will help deter illegal gambling activities and promote responsible online behavior among internet users.
