Residents and business owners in National Harbor are on edge following a deadly shooting at the MGM Casino on Sunday night.
The incident, which left one person dead and several others injured, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about safety and security in the popular tourist destination.
Local business owner Maria Rodriguez, who owns a restaurant near the casino, said she was shocked to hear about the shooting.
“I’ve never felt unsafe in this area before, but now I’m worried about what could happen next,” Rodriguez said. “I have employees and customers to think about, and I want to make sure they are all safe.”
The shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, when a fight broke out between several individuals inside the casino. Security footage shows a man pulling out a gun and opening fire, causing chaos and panic among patrons.
Police arrived on the scene quickly and were able to apprehend the suspect, who has since been identified as a 27-year-old man with a history of violence. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
National Harbor residents have expressed their concerns about the safety of the area, which is known for its restaurants, shops, and waterfront views.
“I’ve lived in National Harbor for years, and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said resident Jonathan Thompson. “It’s frightening to think that something like this could happen in our community.”
Local authorities have increased patrols in the area and are working with casino management to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
“We are taking this incident very seriously and are working closely with law enforcement to address any security concerns,” said a spokesperson for the MGM Casino. “The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority, and we will do everything we can to prevent incidents like this from happening again.”
Despite the increased police presence, many residents remain on edge and are calling for additional security measures to be implemented in the area.
“I think we need more security cameras and more police officers patrolling the area,” said Rodriguez. “We can’t let something like this happen again.”
As the investigation into the shooting continues, residents and business owners in National Harbor are left grappling with the aftermath of this tragic incident and hoping for a safer future in their community.
