A 32-year-old woman from Kansas City is facing felony charges after being accused of stealing $1,000 worth of chips from the River City Casino in St. Louis. The incident occurred on Saturday night, when the casino was bustling with patrons and visitors trying their luck at the various games and slot machines.
According to casino security footage, the woman, identified as Sarah Johnson, was seen walking around the casino floor and appearing to be overly interested in the high-value chips at the blackjack tables. She was reportedly seen lingering near a table where a player had left a stack of $1,000 chips unattended.
Witnesses and security personnel noticed Johnson behaving suspiciously and alerted casino management. When confronted by security, Johnson denied any wrongdoing and initially refused to cooperate. However, upon further investigation, security found the missing chips in her possession.
Johnson was immediately detained and questioned by police on the scene. She was subsequently arrested and charged with felony theft, as the value of the stolen chips exceeded $500. She was taken into custody and is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
The River City Casino issued a statement expressing their disappointment and zero tolerance for theft on their premises. They assured patrons that they have strict security measures in place to prevent such incidents and will cooperate fully with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
Johnson’s motives for the theft remain unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter. If convicted, she could face significant fines and possible jail time for her actions. The case serves as a stark reminder to all casino visitors to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to casino staff immediately.
