A night of fun and excitement at a Delaware casino took a violent turn when a man was arrested for starting a fight, according to police.
The incident occurred at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware, on Saturday evening. Authorities were called to the scene after receiving reports of a brawl in progress.
Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic scene with several people involved in a physical altercation. Witnesses told police that the fight had started when a man, later identified as 32-year-old Michael Johnson, became aggressive with another patron at the casino.
Johnson allegedly began hurling insults and threats at the other individual, ultimately provoking a physical confrontation. The two men exchanged blows before security staff intervened to break up the fight.
Police quickly apprehended Johnson and placed him under arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and assault. He was taken into custody without further incident.
No serious injuries were reported as a result of the altercation, but the incident left many shaken and stunned by the sudden outbreak of violence in an otherwise peaceful setting.
In a statement released following the incident, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino officials expressed their dismay over the situation and reassured patrons that they take the safety and security of their guests very seriously.
“We are deeply troubled by the events that transpired at our facility last night and are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their investigation,” the statement read. “Our top priority is always the well-being of our patrons, and we are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all who visit our establishment.”
Johnson is currently being held at the Dover Police Department pending further legal proceedings. It is not clear at this time what may have motivated his aggressive behavior at the casino.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in their ongoing investigation. The Dover Police Department can be reached at (302) 736-7111.
