The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has issued a warning to the public about fraudulent gaming advertisements posing as Casino Rama. According to the OPP, scammers are using the popular casino’s name and logo to lure unsuspecting victims into fraudulent schemes.
The advertisements appear on various websites and social media platforms, offering viewers the chance to win big prizes or free spins at Casino Rama. However, these ads are not affiliated with the legitimate casino and are part of a phishing scam aimed at stealing personal information and money from unsuspecting individuals.
Inspector Steve Bartley of the OPP’s Anti-Rackets Branch emphasized the importance of being cautious when clicking on online ads, especially those related to gambling. He warned that scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their tactics, making it difficult for consumers to distinguish between legitimate and fraudulent offers.
“We urge the public to exercise caution when encountering ads that seem too good to be true,” Inspector Bartley stated. “If you receive an unsolicited gaming advertisement claiming to be from Casino Rama, do not click on it. Instead, report it to the OPP immediately.”
The OPP reminded the public that legitimate online casinos, including Casino Rama, will never ask for personal information or payment details through unsolicited advertisements. They advised consumers to only engage with online gaming platforms that are licensed and regulated by reputable authorities.
In response to the fraudulent ads, Casino Rama issued a statement on their website warning customers about the scam and reiterating that they do not engage in unsolicited advertising practices. They encouraged individuals who encounter suspicious ads to report them to the appropriate authorities.
The OPP is working closely with Casino Rama and other gaming regulators to investigate the fraudulent advertisements and track down the scammers behind them. They urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity related to gaming or gambling.
As the investigation continues, the OPP is reminding consumers to be cautious and skeptical of online offers that seem too good to be true. By staying informed and aware of potential scams, individuals can protect themselves from falling victim to fraudulent schemes targeting gaming enthusiasts.
