Las Vegas casino unions are gearing up for another battle with President Donald Trump as negotiations for better wages and working conditions are set to commence once again. This comes after a previous clash with the Trump organization last year, which resulted in a successful strike that lasted for over a month and saw thousands of workers picketing outside of Trump-owned properties.
The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, which represent over 60,000 workers in the Las Vegas hospitality industry, are leading the charge in the negotiations. The unions are seeking improved wages, better healthcare benefits, and a stronger job security for their members.
Last year’s strike was a turning point for the unions, as they were able to secure a new contract that included significant pay raises and improved working conditions for their members. However, with the Trump organization’s resistance to union demands, the unions are preparing for another tough battle.
“We are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure that our members are treated fairly and with respect,” said Geoconda Argüello-Kline, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. “We will not back down until we have a fair contract that addresses the needs of our workers.”
The unions are also calling on other labor groups and supporters to join them in their fight against the Trump organization. They are planning to hold rallies and protests outside of Trump-owned properties in an effort to pressure the company into meeting their demands.
The Trump organization has not yet commented on the upcoming negotiations, but it is expected that tensions will once again run high as the two sides come together to hash out a new contract. With the support of their members and the community, the Las Vegas casino unions are confident that they will be able to secure a fair deal for their workers and continue to fight for workers’ rights in the hospitality industry.
