ATLANTA, GA – The Atlanta Police Department (APD) has launched an investigation into a store owner accused of illegally giving cash payouts on gambling machines to customers. The allegations surfaced after a report from WSB-TV Channel 2 revealed undercover footage captured inside the store showing customers receiving cash payouts from the owner.
According to APD officials, the store owner, whose identity has not been disclosed, is believed to have been operating illegal gambling machines on the premises in violation of state laws. Undercover officers conducted a sting operation at the store after receiving multiple complaints from residents in the area regarding suspicious activity.
During the operation, officers observed customers playing what appeared to be illegal gambling machines and receiving cash payouts from the store owner. The footage obtained by WSB-TV Channel 2 shows the owner handing out wads of cash to customers in exchange for winning on the machines.
“It is illegal to operate gambling machines that provide cash payouts in the state of Georgia,” said an APD spokesperson. “We take these allegations very seriously and are working diligently to investigate the matter further.”
The store owner could face charges of operating illegal gambling machines, providing cash payouts, and potentially money laundering. APD officials are urging anyone with information regarding the case to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, nearby residents are expressing concern over the illegal activity taking place in their neighborhood. “I had no idea that this was happening right under our noses,” said one resident. “It’s alarming to think that something like this could be going on in our community.”
The APD is working closely with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to gather evidence and build a case against the store owner. Additional charges may be brought against anyone found to be involved in the operation of the illegal gambling machines.
As the investigation unfolds, APD officials are reminding residents to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. “We rely on the community to help us identify and investigate illegal activity,” said the APD spokesperson. “Together, we can work to keep our neighborhoods safe and free from crime.”
