Norfolk, Virginia – Excitement is building as the groundbreaking ceremony for the highly-anticipated Norfolk casino is set to take place on October 30th. The $500 million project, which has been in the works for years, is finally coming to fruition thanks to the partnership between the Pamunkey Indian Tribe and the city of Norfolk.
The casino, which will be located near Harbor Park and the Willoughby neighborhood, is expected to bring in thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue for the city. It will feature a state-of-the-art gaming floor with over 3,000 slot machines, as well as a variety of table games, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
In addition to the casino, the project will also include a hotel with over 300 rooms, as well as a conference center and spa. The Pamunkey Indian Tribe, which has been working closely with the city on this development, is excited to bring economic growth and opportunity to the region.
“We are thrilled to be breaking ground on this historic project,” said Chief Robert Gray of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. “This casino will not only provide jobs and revenue for the city of Norfolk, but it will also allow us to preserve our heritage and culture for future generations.”
The groundbreaking ceremony, which will take place at the site of the future casino, will feature speeches from city officials, tribal leaders, and other key stakeholders. There will also be a ceremonial shovel turning and a traditional blessing ceremony to mark the beginning of construction.
“We are so grateful for the support and partnership of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe in bringing this project to life,” said Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander. “This casino will be a game-changer for our city and will open up a world of opportunities for our residents.”
Construction on the Norfolk casino is expected to take around two years, with a grand opening planned for late 2023. In the meantime, city officials and tribal leaders are looking forward to seeing the project progress and the economic benefits it will bring to the community.
