SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) – In a major bust on Wednesday night, San Jose police raided an illegal gambling den and recovered a stash of guns and drugs.
According to officials, the bust took place at a nondescript building in the heart of San Jose. Police were tipped off to the illegal operation after receiving multiple complaints from concerned citizens.
Upon entering the building, officers discovered a large crowd of people engaging in various forms of illegal gambling, including card games and sports betting. In addition to the illegal gambling activities, police also found a cache of weapons and drugs hidden throughout the premises.
Police recovered several firearms, including handguns and rifles, as well as a significant amount of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription pills. The discovery of the weapons and drugs has raised concerns among law enforcement officials about the potential for violence and criminal activity associated with illegal gambling operations.
“This bust is a perfect example of the dangers posed by illegal gambling dens,” said San Jose Police Chief Anthony Mata. “Not only do these establishments contribute to organized crime and violence, but they also bring drugs and guns into our communities.”
Several individuals were arrested during the raid, including the suspected ringleader of the operation. Police have not released any further details about the suspects or the charges they are facing.
The bust comes amid a crackdown on illegal gambling operations in San Jose and throughout California. In recent months, authorities have been working to shut down these illegal establishments, which often pose a threat to public safety and operate without proper permits.
Police are urging citizens to report any suspected illegal gambling activity to help keep their communities safe. They are also reminding residents that gambling is only legal when conducted in licensed establishments and regulated by the state.
The investigation into the illegal gambling den bust is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine whether any additional charges will be filed. In the meantime, the weapons and drugs recovered during the raid have been taken off the streets, making San Jose a safer place for residents and visitors alike.
