Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians has recently made headlines by approving a new no smoking policy for its five Kewadin Casinos located in Michigan. The decision comes as a response to growing concerns about the health risks associated with secondhand smoke and the importance of creating a healthier and cleaner environment for both employees and patrons.
The new policy, which was unanimously approved by the Sault Tribe Board of Directors, will prohibit smoking throughout all indoor areas of the casinos, including gaming floors, restaurants, and hotel rooms. The only designated smoking areas will be located outside of the buildings, in specifically designated smoking zones.
Sault Tribe Chairman Aaron Payment stated that the decision to implement a no smoking policy was driven by a combination of factors, including the desire to protect the health and well-being of all individuals who visit the casinos, as well as to align with the tribe’s values of promoting a healthy lifestyle for its community members.
“We believe that it is our responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for our guests and employees,” Payment said in a statement. “Implementing a no smoking policy is a proactive step towards achieving that goal and promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.”
The new policy is set to go into effect on January 1, 2022, and will be strictly enforced by casino staff. Signs will be prominently displayed throughout the casinos to remind patrons of the new regulations, and employees will receive training on how to ensure compliance with the policy.
In addition to the health benefits, the no smoking policy is also expected to have a positive impact on the overall atmosphere of the casinos. Many non-smoking patrons have expressed their appreciation for the new policy, citing a more enjoyable and comfortable gaming experience.
The Sault Tribe is not the first Native American tribe to implement a no smoking policy in its casinos. Several other tribes across the country have already made similar moves in recent years, demonstrating a growing trend towards creating healthier and cleaner environments within the gaming industry.
Overall, the Sault Tribe’s decision to implement a no smoking policy at its Kewadin Casinos is a significant and commendable step towards promoting a healthier and more enjoyable experience for all individuals who visit the casinos. It serves as a powerful example of the tribe’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its community members and guests.
