A Chicago man and his accomplice are facing serious charges after allegedly robbing an elderly couple following a big win at a local casino. According to authorities, the couple had just left the casino with their winnings when they were approached by the suspects in the parking lot.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night, as the couple, both in their late 70s, were walking to their car after a successful night at the casino. The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Marcus Johnson and 28-year-old Tiffany Green, allegedly approached the couple and demanded they hand over their winnings.
When the couple refused to comply, Johnson and Green allegedly became violent, assaulting the elderly man and woman before stealing their cash and fleeing the scene. The couple sustained minor injuries in the attack and were treated at a local hospital before being released.
Authorities were able to track down Johnson and Green thanks to surveillance footage from the casino parking lot and witness statements. Both suspects were apprehended within hours of the robbery and are now facing multiple charges, including robbery, assault, and theft.
“This was a cowardly and despicable act perpetrated against a vulnerable couple who were simply enjoying a night out at the casino,” said Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown. “We will not tolerate this kind of behavior in our city, and we will do everything in our power to bring these criminals to justice.”
The elderly couple, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their gratitude to the police for their swift action in apprehending the suspects. “We are thankful to be alive and are hopeful that justice will be served,” the couple said in a statement.
Johnson and Green are currently being held in custody pending a court hearing.
