Local state senator, John Smith, is on a mission to legalize online casino gaming in Ohio. Smith, who represents the Dayton area, has been a vocal advocate for expanding gambling in the state in order to generate much-needed revenue for struggling local economies.
Currently, Ohio only allows casino gambling at four land-based casinos in the state. However, with more and more states legalizing online casino gaming, Smith believes it is time for Ohio to join the trend.
In a recent interview with the Dayton Daily News, Smith stated, “Online casino gaming is a rapidly growing industry that has the potential to bring in significant tax revenue for our state. By legalizing online casino gaming, we can keep that revenue in Ohio and create jobs for our residents.”
Smith’s proposal would allow Ohio residents to gamble online at licensed casinos within the state. The bill also includes provisions to protect consumers from problem gambling and ensure the integrity of the games.
Opponents of online casino gaming argue that it could lead to an increase in gambling addiction and other social problems. However, Smith believes that with proper regulations and oversight, these concerns can be mitigated.
If the bill is passed, Ohio could potentially become a major player in the growing online casino market. According to a recent report by the American Gaming Association, online casino gaming generated over $900 million in revenue in 2020, a 69% increase from the previous year.
In addition to generating revenue for the state, online casino gaming could also create new job opportunities for Ohio residents. Smith estimates that legalizing online casino gaming could create thousands of new jobs in the state.
Local businesses are also excited about the potential economic benefits of legalizing online casino gaming. Mary Johnson, owner of a local restaurant in Dayton, stated, “Bringing online casino gaming to Ohio would bring in more customers to my restaurant and help boost the local economy. I fully support Senator Smith’s proposal.”
It remains to be seen whether Smith’s bill will garner enough support to pass in the state legislature. However, with the potential for significant revenue and job creation, online casino gaming may soon become a reality in Ohio.
