Hard Rock Casino and the Urban League have joined forces to establish a groundbreaking scholarship program aimed at providing financial support and resources to minority students in Northwest Indiana. The initiative, which was announced at a press conference held at the newly opened Hard Rock Casino in Gary, is a significant step towards promoting diversity and inclusion in the region’s higher education institutions.
The partnership between the casino giant and the Urban League, a leading civil rights organization dedicated to empowering African Americans and other marginalized communities, represents a major milestone in efforts to address racial disparities in education and create more opportunities for underrepresented groups.
The scholarship program, dubbed “Rocking Success,” will award financial assistance to students from underprivileged backgrounds who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. Recipients of the scholarship will receive a generous financial aid package that covers tuition, fees, and other educational expenses, as well as access to mentorship and career development opportunities.
In addition to providing financial support, the program will also focus on building a supportive community for scholarship recipients by offering networking events, workshops, and other resources designed to help them succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. The goal is to empower students to reach their full potential and become future leaders in their fields.
Speaking at the press conference, Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International, emphasized the company’s commitment to promoting diversity and equity in education. “We are proud to partner with the Urban League to launch the Rocking Success scholarship program, which will provide much-needed support to talented students who may not have had access to the same opportunities as their peers,” he said.
Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, echoed Allen’s sentiments, highlighting the importance of investing in education as a means of combatting inequality and promoting social mobility. “Education is the great equalizer, and by providing scholarships to deserving students, we can help level the playing field and ensure that everyone has a fair shot at success,” Morial stated.
The Rocking Success scholarship program is set to launch in the upcoming academic year, with applications opening in the spring. Eligible students are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this unique opportunity to receive financial support and mentorship from two industry leaders committed to driving positive change in Northwest Indiana’s education landscape.
