Two men have been charged with drug sales and running illegal gambling machines at a store in Norwalk.
The suspects, identified as John Smith and Mike Johnson, were arrested following a months-long investigation by the Norwalk Police Department into illegal activities at a convenience store on Main Street.
According to police, undercover officers made several purchases of illegal drugs from the suspects over the past several weeks. They also observed multiple individuals coming and going from the store, engaging in what appeared to be illegal gambling activity.
On Tuesday, officers executed a search warrant at the store and found a large quantity of drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, and prescription pills. They also discovered several illegal gambling machines hidden in a back room of the store.
Smith and Johnson were taken into custody and charged with drug possession with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, and running illegal gambling machines. They are currently being held on bond and are scheduled to appear in court later this week.
In a statement, Norwalk Police Chief James Smith commended his officers for their diligent work in shutting down the illegal operation.
“We take drug sales and illegal gambling very seriously in our community,” Chief Smith said. “We will continue to work tirelessly to rid our streets of these harmful activities and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”
The store where the illegal activities took place has been temporarily shut down pending further investigation. Residents in the area are urged to report any suspicious activity to the Norwalk Police Department.
