Injured duck known around a closed Las Vegas casino was rehomed by sanctuary – Fox 5 Las Vegas
A beloved duck that had become a familiar sight to visitors and locals alike at a closed Las Vegas casino has found a new home thanks to a local animal sanctuary.
The duck, known affectionately as “Lucky,” had been living in the courtyard of the closed casino since the COVID-19 pandemic forced its closure in March 2020. Despite the casino being closed to the public, Lucky continued to make the courtyard his home, enjoying the quiet surroundings and limited human interaction.
But recently, concerned casino staff noticed that Lucky appeared to be injured, favoring one of his wings and moving with difficulty. Worried for his well-being, they contacted a local animal sanctuary, The Animal Foundation, for help.
Upon assessing Lucky’s condition, veterinarians at the sanctuary determined that he had a broken wing that needed immediate medical attention. They quickly set to work, performing surgery to repair the wing and providing Lucky with the necessary care and rehabilitation to ensure his recovery.
After several weeks of rehabilitation, Lucky was deemed fit to be released back into the wild. However, knowing that the closed casino was no longer a suitable home for him, the sanctuary made the decision to rehome Lucky in a nearby wildlife reserve where he would have access to plenty of food, water, and space to roam freely.
The news of Lucky’s relocation was met with an outpouring of support and well-wishes from the community, many of whom had grown fond of the charismatic duck during his time at the casino.
“Although we will miss seeing Lucky around the casino, we are grateful to The Animal Foundation for stepping in and providing him with the care he needed,” said casino manager, Sarah Johnson. “We are confident that Lucky will thrive in his new home and we wish him all the best in his future adventures.”
As Lucky settles into his new surroundings, staff at the sanctuary will continue to monitor his progress and provide any additional care he may need. And while his time at the closed casino may be over, Lucky’s story has left a lasting impression on all those who came to know and love him, a reminder of the resilience and spirit of the animal kingdom.
