Mississippi’s casino industry experienced a significant rebound in June, with revenue hitting the $200 million mark for the second consecutive month, according to data released by the Mississippi Gaming Commission. The state’s casinos generated a total of $213.8 million in revenue in June, marking a 7% increase compared to the same month last year.
The strong performance in June comes on the heels of a sluggish start to the year, as the industry struggled to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with restrictions easing and more people returning to casinos, Mississippi’s gaming market is slowly but steadily climbing back to pre-pandemic levels.
“We are pleased to see the continued growth in casino revenue in Mississippi, as it signals a positive trend for the industry,” said Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission. “The resilience of our casinos and their ability to adapt to changing circumstances has been impressive, and we expect this momentum to continue in the coming months.”
Several factors contributed to the strong performance in June, including the reopening of all casinos in the state, increased tourism and travel, and a rise in consumer confidence. Additionally, the ongoing expansion and renovation of several casinos, as well as the introduction of new gaming offerings, have helped attract more visitors and drive revenue growth.
The state’s coastal casinos saw the largest increase in revenue in June, with a 12% jump compared to the same month last year. The market in the Gulf Coast region continues to be a major driver of growth for the industry, attracting tourists and visitors from across the country.
In addition to the increase in revenue, the state’s casinos also reported strong gaming win figures in June, with slot machines and table games both posting gains compared to the previous year. Slot machines accounted for the majority of revenue, generating $148.7 million in June, while table games brought in $57.5 million.
Looking ahead, industry analysts and experts are optimistic about the future of Mississippi’s gaming market, as the state continues to recover from the impact of the pandemic and attract more visitors. With the summer travel season in full swing and more events and entertainment options available, casinos in Mississippi are expected to see continued growth in the coming months.
Overall, the strong performance in June signals a positive outlook for the state’s gaming industry, with revenue back on track and casinos poised for continued success in the months ahead. As the industry continues to recover and adapt to changing circumstances, Mississippi’s casinos are well-positioned to thrive and attract visitors from near and far.
