Sioux Falls police are currently investigating a brazen casino robbery that took place late Saturday night at a popular gambling establishment in the heart of the city.
According to authorities, the robbery occurred at the Diamond Palace Casino, located on Main Street. Witnesses reported seeing two masked individuals armed with handguns enter the premises around 11:30 p.m. The suspects allegedly demanded cash from both patrons and employees before fleeing the scene on foot.
“We are taking this incident very seriously,” said Chief of Police Rebecca Thomas. “Our officers are working around the clock to gather evidence, review surveillance footage, and track down the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime.”
Several patrons inside the casino at the time of the robbery reported feeling terrified and shaken by the events that unfolded. One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, described the scene as chaotic and frightening.
“I couldn’t believe it when those guys burst in with guns. I thought it was a nightmare,” the witness said. “I’m just grateful no one was hurt, but it was definitely a scary situation.”
Authorities have released a description of the suspects in the hopes that the public may have information that could aid in the investigation. The first suspect is described as a tall, slender male wearing a black hoodie and black mask. The second suspect is said to be a shorter, stocky male dressed in a grey hoodie and black mask.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the robbery to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We are confident that we will be able to identify and apprehend these individuals,” Chief Thomas stated. “But we need the community’s help to make that happen.”
In the meantime, the Diamond Palace Casino has announced that they will be increasing security measures in an effort to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
