Maryland casinos have reported an impressive total gaming revenue of $162.9 million for the month of June, marking a significant increase in profits compared to previous months. The state’s six casinos saw a surge in business as pandemic restrictions eased and more people returned to gambling establishments.
According to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, the state’s gaming revenue for June was up 16.8% from the same period last year, highlighting a strong recovery in the industry. The casinos’ success can be attributed to a combination of factors, including pent-up demand from customers eager to return to their favorite gaming venues, as well as increased tourism and travel activity during the summer months.
Among the top-performing casinos in the state were MGM National Harbor and Live! Casino & Hotel, both of which saw a significant increase in revenue compared to the previous year. MGM National Harbor reported a total gaming revenue of $68.7 million for June, up 18.7% from the same period in 2020. Live! Casino & Hotel, on the other hand, reported a total gaming revenue of $55.9 million, representing a 17.4% increase from the previous year.
Other casinos in the state also saw notable gains in revenue, with Horseshoe Casino Baltimore reporting a total gaming revenue of $18.4 million, up 11.9% from the previous year. Hollywood Casino Perryville saw a total gaming revenue of $7.3 million, representing a 13.8% increase from the same period in 2020. Ocean Downs Casino reported a total gaming revenue of $9.1 million, up 15.2% from the previous year, while Rocky Gap Casino Resort reported a total gaming revenue of $3.5 million, up 11.1% from the same period in 2020.
The increase in gaming revenue for Maryland casinos is a positive sign for the state’s economy, as it indicates a resurgence in consumer spending and activity in the entertainment and hospitality sectors.
