According to reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the victim, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was walking along the side of the road when a vehicle driven by a 45-year-old male from Valentine, Nebraska, struck her. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries in the collision.
