This past month, the Maryland casino industry faced a slight dip in revenue as players took advantage of the warm weather by hitting the beach instead of the slot machines. According to the latest figures released by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, total gaming revenue for June was down 5.9% compared to the previous month.
Despite the decrease in revenue, the state’s six casinos still managed to bring in a total of $144.2 million in June. The biggest contributor to this revenue was the MGM National Harbor, which generated $57.2 million in gaming revenue. Following closely behind was Live! Casino & Hotel with $50.3 million, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore with $21.6 million, and Hollywood Casino Perryville with $6.7 million.
The dip in revenue can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the seasonality of the gaming industry and the increasing popularity of outdoor activities during the summer months. With temperatures rising and the beaches beckoning, many casino players decided to take a break from the slots and tables to soak up the sun.
Despite the slight decrease in revenue, industry experts remain optimistic about the future of the Maryland casino market. With new developments and expansions on the horizon, such as the recently approved $2.2 billion resort and casino in Hagerstown, there is plenty of potential for growth in the state’s gaming industry.
In the meantime, casino operators are focusing on attracting players back to the gaming floor with special promotions and events. Live! Casino & Hotel, for example, has been offering a series of summer-themed promotions and giveaways to entice players to return to the casino.
As the summer heats up, it remains to be seen whether Maryland casino players will continue to prioritize beach days over casino nights. One thing is for sure, however – the gaming industry in the state is as resilient as ever, and there are plenty of exciting developments on the horizon.
