Two people were hospitalized after a car ran a red light near the bustling Atlantis Casino in Reno on Tuesday afternoon, causing a serious collision that left both vehicles severely damaged.
According to witnesses at the scene, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Virginia Street and Peckham Lane, just a stone’s throw away from the popular casino. The driver of a black sedan reportedly ran a red light, causing a white SUV to T-bone the vehicle with such force that both cars spun out of control and came to rest on opposite sides of the intersection.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and immediately began providing medical assistance to those involved in the crash. The driver of the sedan, a middle-aged man, was extracted from his vehicle with the help of the fire department and rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV, a young woman, was also transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles sustained significant damage, with the sedan appearing to have been crushed in on one side and the SUV’s front end completely crumpled. Debris from the crash littered the intersection, and traffic was backed up in all directions as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Local law enforcement officials are currently investigating the cause of the crash, but initial reports suggest that the driver of the black sedan may have been speeding and failed to obey the traffic signal. It is unclear at this time whether any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
The intersection where the crash occurred is known for its heavy traffic and frequent accidents, prompting calls from residents for increased safety measures such as traffic lights and speed bumps. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the potentially devastating consequences of reckless behavior behind the wheel.
