In the wake of the Mirage Hotel and Casino’s unexpected closure, hundreds of workers have been left without jobs and uncertain about their futures. However, thanks to the efforts of various organizations and job fairs, many of the displaced employees are finding new opportunities and resources to help them transition to their next chapter.
The Mirage Hotel and Casino, located on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, announced its closure last month due to economic challenges brought on by the ongoing pandemic. With over 1,000 employees impacted by the closure, the local community has rallied to support these workers in finding new employment.
One such initiative is the job fair organized by the Las Vegas Hospitality Association, which has brought together dozens of employers from the hospitality and gaming industry to connect with Mirage workers seeking new opportunities. Companies such as Wynn Resorts, MGM Resorts, and Caesars Entertainment have been in attendance, offering a variety of positions ranging from front-line roles to management positions.
“We recognize the impact of the Mirage closure on our community, and we are committed to helping these workers find new opportunities,” said Maria Rodriguez, president of the Las Vegas Hospitality Association. “Our job fair is just the beginning of our efforts to support these employees as they navigate this challenging time.”
In addition to job fairs, Mirage workers have also been able to access resources such as resume workshops, career counseling, and financial assistance programs. The Culinary Union, which represents many of the affected workers, has been instrumental in providing support and guidance to its members during this difficult period.
“We are here to ensure that our members are taken care of as they look for new employment,” said Bethany Smith, a representative of the Culinary Union. “We are working closely with employers, government agencies, and community organizations to connect Mirage workers with the resources they need to transition to new opportunities.”
Despite the challenges posed by the closure of the Mirage, many workers are optimistic about the future and grateful for the support they have received. “It’s been a tough few weeks, but I am hopeful that I will find a new job soon,” said Jenna Stevens, a former Mirage employee. “The job fair and resources have been invaluable in helping me navigate this uncertain time.”
As Mirage workers continue to connect with job fairs and resources, the Las Vegas community is coming together to support these individuals in their search for new opportunities. With a positive outlook and a strong support system in place, many are confident that they will soon find their next chapter in the hospitality and gaming industry.
