Indonesia has intensified its fight against online gambling by launching three major operations targeting illegal gambling activities across the country. The crackdown comes as authorities aim to curb the spread of online gambling, which has become increasingly popular in recent years.
The first operation, codenamed “Operation Clean Sweep,” was launched in Jakarta and targeted illegal online gambling sites operating in the capital city. The operation resulted in the shutdown of several websites and the arrest of several individuals involved in running illegal gambling operations.
In a press conference, Jakarta Police Chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran, stated that the operation was part of a larger effort to combat the growing problem of online gambling in the country. “Online gambling poses a serious threat to society, especially to the youth who are vulnerable to its negative effects. We are committed to eradicating this illegal activity and ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens,” he said.
The second operation, named “Operation Eagle Eye,” was launched in Surabaya, targeting illegal online gambling operations in the country’s second-largest city. The operation led to the shutdown of several online gambling sites and the arrest of individuals involved in running illegal gambling activities.
Surabaya Police Chief, Commissioner Rudi Setiawan, emphasized the importance of cracking down on online gambling to protect the public from falling into addiction and financial ruin. “Online gambling can have devastating effects on individuals and families, leading to addiction, financial problems, and even criminal behavior. We are committed to taking firm action against those who engage in this illegal activity,” he said.
The third operation, dubbed “Operation Thunderbolt,” took place in Medan, targeting illegal online gambling operations in the city. The operation resulted in the shutdown of several online gambling sites and the arrest of individuals involved in running illegal gambling activities.
North Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Martuari Sianturi, stressed the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public in combating online gambling. “We need the support of the public in identifying and reporting illegal gambling activities. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against online gambling and protect our society from its harmful effects,” he said.
The crackdown on online gambling in Indonesia comes amid growing concerns about the negative impact of illegal gambling activities on society. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious online gambling activities to help stem the tide of this illicit industry. With the launch of these three major operations, Indonesia is sending a clear message that it is serious about tackling the problem of online gambling and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
