In a groundbreaking turn of events, the Pennsylvania gaming industry has hit a new milestone with a record-breaking revenue total of $521 million in the month of May. This significant increase marks a major triumph for the state’s thriving gaming sector, which has continued to see growth and success in recent years.
According to data released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the total gaming revenue for the month of May surpassed all previous records and exceeded expectations by a staggering $100 million. This impressive surge in revenue can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the resumption of in-person gaming operations following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, as well as a surge in online gaming activity.
One of the biggest contributors to the record-breaking revenue total was the state’s 14 land-based casinos, which collectively generated a total of $450 million in revenue for the month of May. This figure represents a 30% increase from the same period last year and underscores the resilience of Pennsylvania’s brick-and-mortar gaming establishments in the face of the pandemic.
In addition to the success of land-based casinos, online gaming also played a significant role in driving up the state’s gaming revenue. With a total of nine online casino operators and 13 online sports betting operators in Pennsylvania, the digital gaming sector saw a 40% increase in revenue from the previous month, reaching a total of $71 million in May.
“The latest revenue figures are a testament to the strength and vitality of Pennsylvania’s gaming industry,” said Kevin O’Toole, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. “The collective efforts of our state’s casinos, both land-based and online, have propelled Pennsylvania to the forefront of the gaming industry, and we are proud to see this growth and success continue.”
Looking ahead, industry experts predict that Pennsylvania’s gaming revenue will only continue to rise in the coming months as the state’s casinos expand their offerings and attract new players. With the implementation of new gaming initiatives and the ongoing popularity of online gaming platforms, Pennsylvania is poised to maintain its position as a leader in the gaming industry for years to come.
