In a major crackdown on illegal betting and online gambling activities, the Ranchi Police have busted a racket operating in the city and arrested eight individuals involved in the illegal activities.
The police received a tip-off about a group of individuals running a betting and online gambling racket in Ranchi. Acting swiftly on the information, a team of officers from the Cyber Crime Unit raided a house in the city’s outskirts where the illegal activities were being conducted.
During the raid, the police found a large sum of money, several mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices used for placing bets and gambling online. The eight individuals who were arrested were identified as the masterminds behind the racket and were taken into custody for further questioning.
According to sources, the accused were using various online platforms and social media to conduct the illegal activities, which have been on the rise in recent years. The police suspect that the group had a wide network of customers and were involved in betting on various sports events and online casino games.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, stated, “We have been closely monitoring illegal betting and online gambling activities in the city and have been working diligently to crack down on such activities. We will continue to take strict action against those involved in illegal gambling and betting.”
The Ranchi Police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act against the accused. They are currently investigating the case further to identify any other individuals involved in the racket.
Authorities have also urged the public to refrain from participating in illegal betting and online gambling activities, as it not only violates the law but also poses serious risks to individuals and can have detrimental effects on society as a whole.
