The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) in Canada, in a move that is set to strengthen cooperation between the two regulatory bodies in the areas of gaming regulation and compliance.
The MoU, which was signed during a visit to the MGA offices by a delegation from the AGCO, marks an important milestone in the relationship between the two organizations, and sets out a framework for collaboration and information sharing.
One of the key objectives of the MoU is to create a more effective regulatory environment for both jurisdictions, by facilitating the exchange of information and best practices in areas such as player protection, responsible gaming, and anti-money laundering.
Commenting on the signing of the MoU, MGA Chief Executive Officer, Heathcliff Farrugia, said: “We are delighted to enter into this MoU with the AGCO, which represents a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance regulatory cooperation and promote a safe and transparent gaming environment. By working closely with our Canadian counterparts, we will be able to share knowledge and expertise that will benefit both jurisdictions and help to raise industry standards.”
The AGCO, which is responsible for regulating gaming and liquor in Ontario, has also welcomed the new partnership, with AGCO Chief Executive Officer, Jean Major, stating: “The signing of this MoU with the MGA is a positive development that will enable us to strengthen our collaboration and enhance our ability to regulate the gaming industry effectively. By sharing information and best practices, we can work together to protect players and ensure that gaming remains safe and fair for all.”
The MoU between the MGA and AGCO comes at a time of increasing cooperation between gaming regulators around the world, as countries seek to address common challenges such as the rise of online gaming and the need for greater transparency and accountability in the industry.
Overall, the new partnership between the MGA and AGCO is seen as a positive step towards achieving these goals, and is likely to have a positive impact on the gaming industry in both Malta and Ontario. It is hoped that this MoU will pave the way for further collaborations between regulatory bodies in other jurisdictions, as the global gaming industry continues to evolve and expand.
