Bridgeport police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into a fatal shooting that took place in March, leading to the arrest of a suspect on Friday.
On March 15, 2021, authorities responded to reports of gunshots in a residential neighborhood in Bridgeport. Upon arrival, they discovered a victim, later identified as 27-year-old Kevin Rivera, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.
For weeks, investigators worked tirelessly to gather evidence and interview witnesses in an effort to identify a suspect in the case. Their efforts finally paid off on Friday when they arrested 24-year-old Marcus Jenkins in connection with Rivera’s murder.
According to police, Jenkins was taken into custody without incident at his home in Bridgeport. He was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and carrying a pistol without a permit. Jenkins is currently being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court next week.
The arrest of Jenkins brings some closure to Rivera’s family and friends, who have been mourning his loss since the tragic incident. A vigil was held in his memory last month, where loved ones gathered to remember the kind-hearted and talented young man that Rivera was.
Bridgeport Police Chief Armando Perez expressed his gratitude to the detectives and officers who worked tirelessly on the case, as well as to the community for their support and cooperation throughout the investigation.
“We are committed to bringing justice to the victims of violent crimes in our city, and this arrest is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our law enforcement officers,” Chief Perez said in a statement.
The motive behind Rivera’s murder remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Bridgeport Police Department.
As the community continues to mourn the loss of Kevin Rivera, they can take comfort in knowing that justice is being served thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Bridgeport police force.
