Army Veteran and former employee of a major casino in Las Vegas, John Smith, has once again filed a retaliation lawsuit against the casino owners, citing ongoing harassment and discrimination. This is the second time that Smith has taken legal action against the casino, alleging that he has been unfairly targeted and mistreated since returning from his military service.
Smith, who served two tours in Iraq as a sergeant in the Army, claims that he has been subjected to a hostile work environment, including verbal abuse, ridicule, and threats of termination. He also alleges that he has been denied promotions and opportunities for advancement, despite his years of dedicated service to the casino.
In a statement released by his attorney, Smith expressed his frustration with the ongoing mistreatment he has faced at the hands of the casino owners. “I risked my life for this country, and all I ask for is to be treated with respect and dignity in the workplace,” said Smith. “It is unacceptable that I have been subjected to discrimination and retaliation simply because of my military service.”
Smith’s attorney also highlighted the fact that this is not the first time that his client has taken legal action against the casino owners. In 2015, Smith filed a similar lawsuit alleging discrimination and retaliation, which was ultimately settled out of court. However, the harassment and mistreatment allegedly continued, leading Smith to take further legal action.
The casino owners have denied the allegations and have stated that they will vigorously defend themselves against the lawsuit. In a statement released to the press, a spokesperson for the casino stated, “We take all allegations of discrimination and retaliation seriously and have strict policies in place to prevent such behavior in the workplace. We are confident that we will be vindicated in court.”
Smith’s attorney has stated that they will be seeking damages for emotional distress, lost wages, and punitive damages in the lawsuit. The case is set to go to trial later this year, and Smith is hopeful that justice will finally be served.
As the legal battle continues to unfold, the spotlight is once again on the issue of discrimination and retaliation in the workplace, especially against military veterans. Many advocates are hopeful that this case will bring much-needed attention to the challenges faced by veterans in the workforce and lead to greater awareness and protection for those who have served their country.
