After a year-long suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, Detroit Lions safety C.J. Moore has expressed his gratitude for being able to return to the game he loves.
Moore, who was slapped with the suspension in the midst of the 2020 season, has been sidelined for the entirety of the Lions’ previous campaign. The suspension came as a shock to many, as Moore had never been previously disciplined for any off-field issues during his time in the league.
“It was a tough pill to swallow, but I knew I had to take responsibility for my actions and accept the consequences,” Moore said in a recent interview. “I spent the past year reflecting on my mistakes and working tirelessly to prove that I am ready to come back and contribute to this team.”
During his time away from the field, Moore underwent counseling and therapy to address his gambling addiction and the underlying issues that led to his suspension. He credits his support system, including family, friends, and teammates, for helping him through this difficult period.
“I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of those around me,” Moore said. “They helped me stay focused and motivated to get back to where I belong – on the football field.”
Now that he has been reinstated by the NFL, Moore is eager to make up for lost time and prove himself to his teammates and coaches. He has been putting in extra work during offseason training to ensure he is in top form when the Lions kick off their upcoming season.
“I feel stronger, both mentally and physically, than ever before,” Moore stated. “I am determined to show everyone that I have learned from my mistakes and am ready to make a positive impact on this team.”
The Lions organization has expressed their support for Moore as he returns to the team, with head coach Dan Campbell praising the safety for his hard work and dedication during his time away.
“We are thrilled to have C.J. back in the fold and are proud of the progress he has made over the past year,” Campbell said. “He has shown a commitment to bettering himself both on and off the field, and we are confident that he will make a significant contribution to our team this season.”
As Moore prepares for the upcoming season, he is focused on redeeming himself and proving that he is deserving of a second chance.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be back doing what I love,” Moore said. “I am determined to show that I am a changed man and that I am ready to help lead this team to success. I am thankful for this chance, and I will not take it for granted.”
