Montreal Alouettes defensive end Shawn Lemon is appealing a suspension for violating the CFL’s gambling policy and has been actively participating in team practices as he awaits a decision on his appeal.
The CFL announced last week that Lemon had been suspended for placing bets on games, a violation of the league’s strict gambling rules. Lemon immediately appealed the suspension, stating that he had made a mistake and was unaware of the consequences of his actions.
“I take full responsibility for my actions and I deeply regret my actions,” Lemon said in a statement. “I did not fully understand the rules and regulations regarding gambling in the CFL and I now realize that my actions were against league policy.”
Despite the suspension, Lemon has been allowed to continue practicing with the Alouettes until a decision is made on his appeal. Head coach Khari Jones said that Lemon has been a valuable member of the team and that they are fully supporting him during this difficult time.
“Shawn is a great player and he has been an important part of our team this season,” Jones said. “We believe in giving our players the opportunity to appeal any decisions that are made and we will continue to support Shawn as he goes through this process.”
Lemon has been a standout on the field for the Alouettes this season, recording 22 tackles, 8 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 11 games. His absence would be a significant blow to the team as they push for a playoff spot in the competitive East Division.
The CFL has not yet announced when a decision on Lemon’s appeal will be made, but in the meantime, Lemon is focused on helping his team prepare for their upcoming games and hopefully leading them to the postseason.
“I am grateful for the support of my teammates, coaches, and the Alouettes organization during this time,” Lemon said. “I am committed to learning from this experience and moving forward as a better player and person.”
As Lemon awaits the outcome of his appeal, the Alouettes will continue to rely on his leadership and playmaking ability as they aim for a strong finish to the season and a spot in the playoffs.
