In a tragic turn of events, online gambling has claimed the lives of an entire family in Odisha. A man, identified as 42-year-old Ramakant Mohapatra, reportedly shot his wife, daughter, and then turned the gun on himself in a fit of despair after losing a large sum of money in online gambling.
According to police reports, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning at the family’s residence in Bhubaneswar. Neighbors reported hearing loud arguments and gunshots coming from the house before the police were called to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Ramakant’s wife, 38-year-old Sunita Mohapatra, and their 15-year-old daughter, Priya Mohapatra, in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds to their heads.
Ramakant was found in the bedroom, with a gunshot wound to his head and the murder weapon lying beside him. The police also found evidence of online gambling, including betting slips and computer equipment used for gambling.

Family members indicated that he had been struggling to cope with his losses and had been increasingly irritable and withdrawn in the days leading up to the tragedy.
