A Kansas City woman is facing felony theft charges after being accused of stealing $1,000 worth of casino chips from River City Casino in St. Louis.
According to authorities, 34-year-old Amanda Davis was caught on surveillance cameras taking several $1,000 chips from a blackjack table at the casino. The theft occurred on Sunday evening while Davis was visiting the casino with a group of friends.
Security personnel at the casino immediately notified police after observing Davis pocketing the chips. She was detained by casino security until officers arrived on the scene to arrest her.
Davis was taken into custody and charged with felony theft. She is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Authorities are still investigating the incident, but it is believed that Davis may have been involved in similar thefts at other casinos in the area. She has a history of criminal charges, including previous theft convictions.
The casino has confirmed that the stolen chips have been recovered and returned to the blackjack table. The incident has prompted River City Casino to review its security measures to prevent similar thefts from occurring in the future.
Davis is scheduled to appear in court later this week for a preliminary hearing. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison and a hefty fine.
The news of Davis’s arrest has shocked the Kansas City community, with many expressing disbelief that someone would risk their freedom for a few thousand dollars in casino chips. Some are calling for stricter penalties for casino theft to deter others from committing similar crimes.
River City Casino has issued a statement expressing their gratitude to security personnel for their quick action in apprehending the suspect. They are working closely with law enforcement to ensure that justice is served in this case.
