SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at an illegal gambling house on the city’s south side.
The incident took place late Saturday night at a residence on the 400 block of South Zarzamora Street. According to SAPD, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the location and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who has been identified as 32-year-old Juan Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that the shooting was the result of a dispute over illegal gambling activities taking place at the residence. A suspect was quickly identified by witnesses at the scene and was later apprehended by SAPD officers.
The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Jose Ramirez. He has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Bexar County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
SAPD has stated that the illegal gambling house where the shooting occurred has been a known hot spot for criminal activity in the area. They are working to shut down these types of establishments in an effort to curb violence and keep the community safe.
