Las Vegas, NV – The powerful casino unions in Las Vegas are gearing up to take on President Donald Trump once again as tensions between the administration and labor groups continue to escalate. With the president’s recent attacks on organized labor and his efforts to rollback worker protections, unions are mobilizing to defend their members and fight for better working conditions in the country’s most prominent gambling hub.
The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and the Bartenders Union Local 165, which together represent over 60,000 workers in the Las Vegas casino industry, have been vocal critics of the Trump administration’s labor policies. They have accused the president of prioritizing corporate interests over workers’ rights and have vowed to resist any attempt to weaken labor protections.
“We will not stand idly by while the president and his allies chip away at the rights and benefits that our members have fought so hard to secure,” said Geoconda Argüello-Kline, Secretary-Treasurer of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. “We will continue to fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity in the workplace for all workers, regardless of what the administration throws our way.”
In recent months, the Trump administration has taken aim at various labor laws and regulations that protect workers, including efforts to make it easier for employers to classify workers as independent contractors, which can deprive them of important benefits and job security. The administration has also rolled back workplace safety protections and has sought to weaken collective bargaining rights for unions.
The unions in Las Vegas have been at the forefront of the resistance against these policies, staging protests and lobbying lawmakers to protect workers’ rights. With the 2020 presidential election on the horizon, they are also mobilizing their members to vote for candidates who support labor rights and will advocate for workers in Washington.
“We have a powerful voice as a union, and we will use that voice to hold the administration accountable and to fight for the rights of all workers,” said Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer of the Bartenders Union Local 165. “We will not back down in the face of attacks on labor, and we will continue to stand strong for our members and their families.”
As the battle between the unions and the Trump administration heats up, Las Vegas is poised to be a major battleground in the fight for workers’ rights in America. With thousands of casino workers ready to stand up and demand better treatment, the unions are prepared to take on Trump once again and fight for a fairer and more equitable workplace for all.
