Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas casino unions are gearing up for another battle with former President Donald Trump, as he attempts to get back into the casino business in the city.
The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, which represent over 60,000 workers in Las Vegas, have had a contentious relationship with Trump in the past. During his time as a casino owner, Trump was accused of union-busting tactics and anti-worker policies.
Now, with reports surfacing that Trump is in talks to purchase a new casino on the Las Vegas Strip, the unions are preparing to take action once again.
“We will not stand idly by while Trump tries to come back into our city and mistreat our workers,” said Geoconda Arguello-Kline, Secretary-Treasurer of the Culinary Union. “Our members deserve fair wages, job security, and respect in the workplace, and we will fight tooth and nail to ensure that they get it.”
The unions have already begun organizing their members and are planning protests and demonstrations outside of the casino where Trump is rumored to be making a bid. They are also reaching out to political allies and community organizations to build a coalition of support for their cause.
“We will use all means at our disposal to ensure that Trump does not succeed in his quest to reopen a casino in Las Vegas,” said Arguello-Kline. “We have fought him before and we will fight him again, because our members’ livelihoods are at stake.”
The unions are also calling on local government officials to scrutinize any potential deal involving Trump and to ensure that worker protections are in place.
“We cannot allow Trump to come back into our city and run roughshod over our workers,” said Arguello-Kline. “We will do everything in our power to stop him, and we are confident that we will prevail.”
As the battle lines are drawn, it remains to be seen how Trump will respond to the unions’ efforts. But one thing is clear – the Las Vegas casino unions are ready for another showdown with the former President. And this time, they are determined to come out on top.
