Concord, NH – Governor Chris Sununu has taken a bold step in protecting charities across New Hampshire by signing a bill that bans casinos from charging rent to charitable organizations operating within their establishments.
The new legislation, which was signed into law on Tuesday, comes as a relief to many charitable organizations that rely on fundraising events held at casinos to generate much-needed revenue for their causes. Under the previous system, charities were often subjected to hefty rental fees that significantly cut into their profits and hampered their ability to fulfill their missions.
Speaking at a press conference announcing the new law, Governor Sununu emphasized the importance of supporting charitable organizations in their efforts to give back to their communities. “Charities play a crucial role in assisting those in need and improving the quality of life for all New Hampshire residents,” he said. “It is my hope that this legislation will help alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by charities and allow them to continue their important work without unnecessary obstacles.”
The bill, which was supported by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers, also includes provisions to ensure that charities are given fair access to casino facilities for their fundraising events. Casinos will still be permitted to host charitable events, but they will no longer be allowed to profit off of these organizations by charging rent.
Charitable organizations across the state have welcomed the news of the new legislation, with many expressing their gratitude to Governor Sununu and the lawmakers who worked to make the bill a reality. “This new law will make a huge difference for us,” said Sarah Thompson, director of a local food pantry. “Being able to hold our fundraising events at casinos without having to worry about rental fees will allow us to raise more money for our programs and help more people in need.”
The signing of this bill marks a significant victory for charities in New Hampshire and sets a positive precedent for other states to follow. By taking a stand against casinos charging rent to charitable organizations, Governor Sununu has demonstrated his commitment to supporting the important work of these organizations and ensuring they have the resources they need to continue making a difference in their communities.
