MGM Resorts International has announced that the launch of online poker in Nevada is still “one year away,” despite previous promises to have it ready by the end of this year.
The news comes as a disappointment to many poker enthusiasts in the state who have been eagerly awaiting the launch of online poker since it was legalized in 2013. MGM was one of the first companies to partner with a software provider and secure a license from the Nevada Gaming Commission, leading many to believe that they would be among the first to launch an online poker site.
However, MGM spokesperson Jane Johnson revealed that the company has encountered “unexpected challenges” in the development of the online poker platform, causing delays in the launch.
“We are committed to launching a top-tier online poker experience for our customers, and we want to ensure that everything is perfect before we go live,” Johnson said. “We apologize for the delay but believe that the final product will be worth the wait.”
Despite the setback, MGM remains hopeful that they will be able to launch their online poker site within the next year. They are working closely with their software provider to address the issues that have arisen and are confident that they will be able to overcome them in a timely manner.
In the meantime, other companies have taken advantage of the delay to launch their own online poker platforms in Nevada. Caesars Interactive Entertainment was the first to launch their WSOP.com site in 2013 and has since been joined by companies such as 888 Holdings and Station Casinos.
Despite the competition, MGM remains confident in their ability to attract players to their online poker site once it finally goes live. With their reputation as one of the premier casino and gaming companies in the world, they believe that they will be able to offer a superior online poker experience that will set them apart from the competition.
In the meantime, poker enthusiasts in Nevada will have to continue to wait patiently for the launch of MGM’s online poker site. While the delay is disappointing, many are hopeful that the final product will be worth the wait and will provide them with a top-tier online poker experience they have been longing for.
