Former NFL player and Pro Football Hall of Famer Bruce Smith is teaming up with The Cordish Companies on a plan to develop a casino in Petersburg, Virginia. The announcement was made in a press conference held at the site of the proposed casino on Tuesday morning.
Smith, who played for the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Football Team during his illustrious career, expressed his excitement about getting involved in the casino project in his home state of Virginia.
“This is a great opportunity to bring economic development and job opportunities to Petersburg,” Smith said. “I have always been a team player, and I am excited to team up with Cordish to make this project a reality.”
The Cordish Companies, a Baltimore-based real estate development and entertainment company, is well-known for its successful casino projects across the country. The company’s portfolio includes popular destinations such as Live! Casino & Hotel in Maryland and Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia.
