Two individuals were arrested in Delaware after allegedly breaking into several vehicles and stealing valuable items. The suspects, identified as 23-year-old John Smith and 28-year-old Jane Doe, were apprehended by authorities following a string of car burglaries in the area.
According to police reports, Smith and Doe were seen breaking into cars parked in a residential neighborhood late at night. The pair, who were caught on surveillance cameras, were seen rummaging through vehicles and stealing various items such as electronics, cash, and personal belongings.
Residents in the neighborhood were alerted to the thefts after several cars were found with broken windows and missing items. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their experience with NBC10 Philadelphia.
“I woke up in the morning to find my car had been broken into. They took my laptop, wallet, and some jewelry. It’s a violation of privacy and it’s unsettling to know that someone was in my car while I was asleep,” the resident said.
Police were able to track down Smith and Doe after receiving tips from witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. The suspects were apprehended a few days later and charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. Authorities also recovered stolen items from the suspects’ residence.
Delaware residents are advised to take precautionary measures to prevent car burglaries, such as locking their vehicles, parking in well-lit areas, and removing valuables from plain sight. Authorities are also urging the public to report any suspicious activity to help prevent future incidents.
The arrests of Smith and Doe serve as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance in deterring crime. By working together and staying vigilant, residents can help keep their neighborhoods safe and secure.
